The story has a Hemingwayesque figure in the form of Tom Pruitt (Gary Cole), a writer who cannot leave Santiago's small community until he has discovered for himself just what motivates the old man. It was boring because it was about how Ernest came up to write the book. Work gives him purpose. A remake of the Ernest Hemingway's Story, Old Man Of the Sea, and even though Anthony Quinn does an excellent job in this movie its still not as well done as the movie with Spencer Tracy.
