Two other panels were instructed to attend each of these three technology panels to assess crosscutting issues relevant to characterization and computation. In addition, abiotic C cycling and its influence on the inorganic C pool in soils is a fundamental global process in which acidic atmospheric CO2 participates in the weathering of carbonate and silicate minerals, ultimately delivering bicarbonate and Ca2+ or other cations that precipitate in the form of carbonates in soils or are transported to the rivers, lakes, and oceans. At the end of the workshop, a final plenary session was convened to summarize the most critical research needs identified by the workshop attendees in each of the three major technical panels and from the two cross-cutting panels. A second major crosscutting theme was the development of new computational tools for theory, modeling, and simulation of separation processes. Our research focuses on understanding the processes controlling weather and climate in mountain regions and improving our ability to forecast these. The final chapter covers the distribution of agroclimate resources of China, the potential of climate resources for food production, the effects on agriculture of climate variations, and climate adversities that devastate agricultural production. Further, the CO2 must be rapidly and selectively pulled out of a mixture that contains many other gaseous components. Such tools are needed to examine interfaces and thin films at the atomic and molecular levels, achieving an atomic/molecular-scale understanding of gas–host structures, kinetics, and dynamics, and understanding and control of nanoscale synthesis in multiple dimensions. The present volume is a translation by Ding Tan from its original Chinese edition. and associated variations of meteorological fields and phenomena. The carbon capture problem is a true grand challenge for today’s scientists. This situation reinforces the need for a parallel, intensive use-inspired basic research effort to address the problem. In each of the technical panels, the participants identified two major crosscutting research themes. The first edition of this book provided a well organized set of principles on how weather and climate processes operate in mountain environments; it was and remains the major reference on the subject.
