Most people will just have a general strategy and maximize it on the way, making the best out of every round. Come discuss games like Codenames, Arkham Horror, Terra Mystica, and all your other favorite games! Although it was confided to me later that the majority of people blamed our AP-player, and won't play this (or lots of complicated games) with him again. It’s definitely at the heavier end of the euro game spectrum. This past Sunday, the girlfriend, our daughter, and I went to the local game store, sat down, and played Terra Mystica. So we spent a significant amount of time face first in the rule book because the group is a stickler for getting the rules right. That just won't work most of the time because when you calculate taking powers and someone blocks it, you have to start all over again. I think I must've watched the video 10 times, pausing every so often to follow the rules in the rulebook. The last time I played I had to advance to a specific area for end round score and I had 2 possible terrain types that suited me for advancing and the 4 last turns I took a different terrain card that I could do nothing with. I've grown to love Terra Mystica, but our groups first play was a pretty negative experience. Disclaimer: Terra Mystica has a lot going on. In fairness, I feel like we were incredibly unprepared for what was about to happen, noone had read the rules or even watched a video (I made it about three minutes into a Rahdo run through before I clicked away). The original digital conversion of the highly decorated Terra Mystica board game of Helge Ostertag and Jens Drögemüller. This past Sunday, the girlfriend, our daughter, and I went to the local game store, sat down, and played Terra Mystica. Your complaints about KB sound a lot like mine about Carcassonne. Join our community! I've played it over 20 times in the past year (roughly half online and half in person). :). We played the beginner's game for three players. It will really speed up once players are familiar with each race and think about the basic strategy of each race. Does anyone else think that it has a shared DNA with Kingdom Builder? Maybe a similar phenotype, but more due to convergent evolution. We also messed up scoring the cult track - we had ties for 2nd and 3rd on space 0 pts that scored 3 VP, when they shouldn't have scored at all.
